Join Blackbird Mountain Guides for an unforgettable 8-night guided Hokkaido backcountry ski trip—a deep snow adventure through Japan’s most iconic powder zones. Designed for experienced backcountry skiers and riders, this Japan ski touring adventure blends lift-accessed touring, fully human-powered missions, and a cat ski day in the Tomamu backcountry.
We offer two back-to-back itineraries during peak winter. Week One (Furano + Tomamu) is based entirely in central Hokkaido, featuring deep touring days and a full day of cat skiing. Week Two (Otaru + Kiroro + Furano) starts on the west coast with lift-access powder at Sapporo Teine and Kiroro before heading inland to the volcanoes of Tokachidake and Asahidake near Furano.
With legendary snowfall, quiet tree zones, and stunning alpine terrain, Hokkaido delivers everything a backcountry skier could want. Our AMGA/IFMGA-certified guides adapt each day to match conditions—ensuring you ski the deepest lines on the island.
Expect a mix of storm-day tree skiing, mellow alpine touring, and cultural immersion—think relaxing in natural onsens, fresh local cuisine, and experiencing the quiet charm of Hokkaido’s mountain towns.
