Blackbird strives to be more than a provider of innovative avalanche courses and expertly guided mountain adventures. We are excited to announce a BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color) Avalanche Course Scholarship.
The purpose of the scholarship is to acknowledge structural racism that has contributed to a lack of representation in the ski industry and to make backcountry skiing more accessible and representative of our population as a whole.
Zeb Blais, the founder of Blackbird Mountain Guides, set up the scholarship program because “the ski industry has a problem with inclusion and diversity. We need to start addressing that.”
The chosen recipient may select from the following programs: AIARE 1 Avalanche Course, Women's AIARE 1 Avalanche Course or AIARE Avalanche Rescue Course in the Truckee / Lake Tahoe area.
APPLICATION PERIOD ENDS December 20th. Applicants will be notified via email once the scholarship decision has been made after December 20.
